Aluminium extrusion has become the material of choice for a huge range of applications across construction, transport, marine and manufacturing in New Zealand. It's light, strong, corrosion-resistant and endlessly adaptable, and once you understand how the process works, it's easy to see why so many businesses are specifying it over steel, timber or plastic alternatives.

‍

What is aluminium extrusion?

Extrusion is the process of forcing heated aluminium billet through a shaped die, producing a continuous profile with a consistent cross section along its full length. Almost any shape can be produced this way, from simple bars and tubes through to complex, purpose-built profiles designed for a specific application.
‍

Why manufacturers are making the switch

A few reasons come up again and again when customers explain why they've moved to aluminium:
‍

  • Strength to weight. Aluminium profiles carry load efficiently without adding unnecessary weight, which matters in transport, marine and architectural applications alike.
    ‍
  • Corrosion resistance. Aluminium naturally forms a protective oxide layer, and with anodising or powder coating it holds up well even in harsh coastal or industrial environments.
    ‍
  • Design flexibility. Custom dies mean a profile can be built around the application, rather than the application being built around whatever standard stock is available.
    ‍
  • Consistency of supply. Once a die exists, the same profile can be reproduced reliably, run after run, which matters for anyone specifying a product for repeat manufacture.

‍

Custom or standard, both are covered

Not every project needs a custom profile. Our standard range already covers bar, tube, angle, channel and beam sections across the most common sizes and alloys, alongside sheet, coil, plate and treadplate. For anything outside that range, our technical team can work through design development and product specification to get a custom profile right the first time.

Cut to length, ready to use

Every profile in our range is available cut to length, so what arrives on site is ready to install rather than something that still needs cutting down. It's a small detail, but it saves time and reduces waste on every job.
